We were delighted to welcome a talented student from a local school for a full week of work experience. Her impressive personal project was based on a fiction novel that she is currently writing herself! A ‘dark romance’. A highly original idea that she has developed into a fully branded promotional campaign.
From her own inspirational work, she followed a complete creative process. She started with mind maps and early concepts, developing visuals in Adobe Illustrator. Then refining her ideas into three strong directions, and selecting one to carry forward.
Using Adobe InDesign, she created print-ready promotional materials. She produced supporting assets in Photoshop. Plus, she wrote all her own copy content, showing flair not just for design, but for brand storytelling and campaign thinking. She is clearly a multi-talented creative.
She tackled campaign planning, online and offline promotion, PR, and e-marketing — all within a tight one-week schedule. With guidance from the VI team, she’ll present her completed project to her teachers next week. We’re confident she’ll receive the recognition she deserves — and likely some straight ‘A’s.
We’ve always believed in giving back. As a business built on talent, care, and creativity, we see it as a responsibility to open our doors to new talent.
Frankly, we don’t understand why many larger competitors don’t do the same. This is how our industry grows stronger – by helping those with talent, curiosity, and passion find their feet.
For all that we give to our work experience designers, we invariably find that they give something back. Always fresh thinking, new perspectives, and a reminder of the energy that first brought us into this industry. It’s always worth it.
Thank you, Jacqui, for all the help you and your staff have given me this week.
We’re always open to collaborating with schools, colleges, and universities to support placements, mentoring, or career sessions.
